Gandalf confronts the Balrog, sacrificing himself to allow the others to escape. The fellowship then reaches the elven realm of Lothlórien, where they find respite and guidance from the Lady Galadriel. Continuing their journey, they travel down the Great River Anduin, but the fellowship is eventually broken. Boromir succumbs to the ring's corrupting influence and attempts to take it from Frodo. Frodo decides to continue the quest alone, but Sam insists on accompanying him. Meanwhile, Merry and Pippin are captured by orcs, and Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli set out to rescue them. The game ends with Frodo and Sam heading towards Mordor, setting the stage for the next part of their epic journey in "The Two Towers" and "The Return of the King".
