Two months after her previous adventure, Lara Croft and her friend Jonah Maiava are dedicated to stopping the activities of the paramilitary organization Trinity. Their pursuit leads them to a Trinity cell in Cozumel, Mexico, headed by Pedro Dominguez of the organization's High Council. Slipping into nearby tombs being excavated by Trinity, Lara discovers a temple containing an ancient artifact known as the Dagger of Chak Chel, along with references to a hidden city. Murals on the walls warn of a Mayan apocalypse called the Cleansing. Determined to keep the relic out of Trinity's hands, Lara sets in motion a chain of events that will draw her deep into the jungles of Central and South America.
