The land of Thedas is being torn apart by a brutal war between rebel mages and the Templar Order that once policed them. In a bid to end the bloodshed, Divine Justinia V, leader of the Chantry, convenes a peace conference near the village of Haven in the kingdom of Ferelden. But the summit ends in catastrophe: a massive explosion obliterates the Conclave and rips a gaping hole in the Veil, the fragile boundary separating the physical world from the Fade, the realm of spirits and demons. This tear, known as the Breach, begins spilling monstrous rifts across the land. The sole survivor of the blast emerges with no memory of the event but bearing a strange mark that can seal the rifts. Hailed by some as the Herald of Andraste, this lone figure becomes the world's unlikely hope against the growing chaos.
