Call of Duty: Warzone is a free-to-play battle royale first-person shooter set in the Call of Duty universe. Up to 150 players parachute onto a large map, scavenge weapons and equipment, and fight to be the last squad standing as the playable area shrinks. The game features an in-game currency system for purchasing loadout drops and other tactical items, as well as a unique respawn mechanic called the Gulag, where eliminated players can fight for a second chance. Originally released as a companion to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), the game was later integrated with Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard content before its servers were shut down in September 2023, succeeded by a 2022 reboot also titled Warzone.
In 2020, the city of Verdansk falls under siege after terrorists Khaled Al-Asad and Victor Zakhaev orchestrate a devastating attack that floods the region with toxic gas. The Armistice, a joint coalition of Russian and NATO operators formed to maintain order, fractures under the chaos, leaving former allies to fight one another for survival amid the spreading contamination. Task Force 141, led by Captain John Price, takes up the mission of tracking down Zakhaev before he can carry out his ultimate plan: the launch of a nuclear missile.
